Socio-emotional education based on self-knowledge for undergraduate medical students

El proceso de enseñanza y aprendizaje es dinámico, cambia conforme lo hacen las sociedades y sus necesidades. El área de las ciencias de la salud, específicamente la medicina no es ajena a este cambio, sin embargo dada su naturaleza jerárquica y paternalista presenta ciertas dificultades al enfrentar esta transformación. Analizando diferentes modelos de enseñanza y currículos universitarios, es importante resaltar que conforme ha avanzado el tiempo se ha intentado dar un enfoque humanístico y en algunos casos holístico en la formación de futuros profesionales. Este ensayo discutirá la importancia de la educación socioemocional, el autoconocimiento, la comunicación interpersonal, aplicado a la práctica hospitalaria y específicamente a la revista médica; como también el rol del docente y del estudiante en el proceso de construcción y apropiación de conocimiento con el propósito de resolver problemas en la sociedad de manera integral. Es vital, que dentro de los currículos se encuentren estos componentes ya que son importantes para formar profesionales íntegros, críticos de sí mismos y del mundo que los rodea, fomentando la motivación por aprender y ayudar a otros a hacer lo mismo, un proceso enriquecedor.The teaching and learning process is dynamic, it changes as societies and their needs do. The area of health sciences, specifically medicine, is not exempt from this change, however, given its hierarchical and paternalistic nature, it presents certain difficulties when facing this transformation. Analyzing different teaching models and university curricula, it is important to highlight that as time has progressed, attempts have been made to give a humanistic and, in some cases, an holistic approach in the training of future professionals. This essay will discuss the importance of socio-emotional education, self-knowledge, interpersonal communication, applied to hospital practice and specifically to the medical round; as well as the role of the teacher and the student in the process of construction and appropriation of knowledge, with the purpose of solving problems in society in an integral way.
